Phoenixville Emergency Crews, Ambulances Work Through Blizzard
Emergency crews handled medical calls in the borough through the height of the blizzard.

PHOENIXVILLE, PA -- Not everyone has the luxury of being off work or school on a snow day.
That’s especially true for fire, police, and emergency crews that are on a heightened alert throughout the duration of the storm.
In Phoenixville, the fire department worked alongside ambulances to help them get where they needed to be during emergency medical calls.

The department said they used their utility truck as a “four-wheel-drive-assist” when ambulances needed to go out in the storm:
This assist on Medical calls is to help ensure Ambulance personnel can get through un-plowed roads and parking lots. Fire personnel also shovel a path through curbs and walkways and spread salt as-needed to help with a smooth transport for the patient. This type of assist on Medical calls is instituted during larger snowstorms.

Moreover, extra personnel manned the station for some 40 hours to make sure road conditions did not delay fire trucks leaving our station, the department said.
