PHOENIXVILLE, PA -- How sanitary are local food establishments?

The Chester County Health Department has inspected 16 Phoenixville locations over the past month, from the period of September 7 to October 4.

King Chef Restaurant and Exxon led the way with five violations apiece. Exxon's violations included not properly dating items, leaving expired milk and sandwiches in the refrigerator, not defrosting the freezer, leaving the plumbing system out of repair, and not providing a tight-fitting lid on the dumpster.

King Chef, meanwhile, had left food containers uncovered, had food name labels missing on containers, used newspaper to line food containers, and using cutting boards with deep grooves that could not be sanitized.
