Phoenixville HS Athletic Teams Work To Help Children Battle Cancer
Phoenixville Area High School's fall sports teams are working with a nonprofit foundation to help children battling cancer.

PHOENIXVILLE, PA -- Phoenixville Area High School fall athletic teams will be working with a nonprofit foundation to support children battling cancer.
September is Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month, and Phoenixville's 10 teams will participate in Go4theGoal’s "Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer" initiative by wearing gold shoelaces and collecting donations to support local kids battling cancer, according to the foundation.
“Phoenixville athletics is honored to partner with such a great organization on such an important cause,” said John Allen, Phoenixville Area High School’s Assistant Athletic Director. “We look forward to helping spread awareness and raise money to fight this terrible disease.”

Tim Raub, the Head Girls’ Soccer Coach is spearheading this campaign, according to Go4theGoal. In 2015, the Girls’ Soccer Team joined forces with Methacton High School to hold an awareness game and introduced Go4theGoal to their school and inspired this school-wide awareness campaign.

“As coaches and educators it is our job not only to improve our players from an athletic standpoint, but also as good students and good citizens,” said Tim Raub. “The Phoenixville girls’ soccer team believes in doing things ‘The Phoenixville Way’, which is based on the pillars of hard work, dedication, strong character and fight and determination. That’s what this community was built on, and anytime we can teach our players about the importance of community and doing what is best to help that community, it is our job as coaches to do so. My younger brother is a cancer survivor, so for me, this is something our team has taken part in that I can hold near and dear to my heart.”

During Phoenixville's competitions between September 19 and 30, donations will be collected for the foundation. All proceeds will go to children battling cancer in Pennsylvania and their families.
Since 2007, Go4theGoal has funded over $1,000,000.00 in research since 2007.
