Dave Beitler, Phoenix Hose, Hook & Ladder Company No. 1 Firefighter, Dies At 85

Dave Beitler, a lifelong Phoenixville firefighter, has died at 85 after serving the community for decades.

PHOENIXVILLE, PA — Lifelong Phoenixville firefighter and U.S. Navy veteran David G. Beitler died on Monday at 85 after decades of service to the community.

The Phoenixville Fire Department announced the loss on social media, saying, "We regret to announce the passing of Life Member Dave Beitler. Dave joined the Phoenix Hose, Hook & Ladder Co., No. 1 in 1982. Dave was drawn to join PHHL1 as he was the great-great-grandson of Charles Shaffer, who was a founding member and first President of PHHL1 in 1874."

Beitler served 20 years in the U.S. Navy and was made a life member of the PHHL1 in 2007, after having served in many administrative roles for 25 years.

His service to Phoenix Hose, Hook & Ladder Co., No. 1 includes 10 years as a board member, 18 years as the recording secretary, and many years helping with weekly BINGO games. He also served several years as the quartermaster up until 2007. Dave's son Doug was a firefighter at West End Fire Co., according to the Phoenixville Fire Department.

"We send our condolences to Dave's wife Barbara and the entire Beitler family," the Department posted.
