Phoenixville Reportedly Nixes French Creek Parkway Project

The $40 million project which would have constructed a parkway back and forth over French Creek in Phoenixville will not go forward.

PHOENIXVILLE — The proposed French Creek Parkway, a proposed network of roads criss-crossing French Creek in Phoenixville, will not move forward, according to a report.

The project, which had a $40 million price tag, had been in the works for nearly 16 years.

Original approval for funding on the project came from federal earmarks from Congress as well as support from PennDOT and the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, the Pottstown Mercury reports.

The proposed parkway would have begun on Starr Street and crossed French Creek, then crossed Main Street, then split several times, with roads going back across the creek and further into planned developments along French Creek, original plans stated.

Borough council reportedly said they were still focused on alleviating traffic, the purpose for which the parkway was originally designed as development boomed.
