Phoenixville Teacher Competes For Citadel Grand Prize

PHOENIXVILLE, PA — The grand prize winners of Citadel's Heart of Learning award honoring excellence in education around Chester County will be announced in a special event on Tuesday.

Phoenixville's "Heart of Learning" award winning teacher Jennifer Adams is the school district's representative in the running for Citadel's grand prize.

Phoenixville's 2020 winner is Jennifer Adams, a 5th grade teacher at Manavon Elementary.

Adams was recognized at an assembly at the school in early March before the coronavirus shutdown.

The award is given each year to one teacher from each of the county's public school districts, as well as one from a private school and one from the Chester County Intermediate Unit.

Each of the 15 finalists, including Adams, receives $500 to use in their classroom. Grand prize winners receive an additional $1,500 for classroom use.

The program has been ongoing since 2001. Thousands of teachers are nominated each year before the field is narrowed to the 15 finalists.
