Phoenixville's Rusty Bodnar, Former Homecoming Queen, Passes Away

Rest in peace, Rusty.

Rusty Bodnar, 84, wife of the late Richard J. Bodnar, of Phoenixville, PA, died on Sunday, October 25, 2015 in Phoenixville Hospital. Born in Phoenixville on September 29, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Zasowska) Miskiewicz and the youngest of twelve siblings.

Rusty was a graduate of Phoenixville High School Class of 1950 where she was the homecoming queen.

She had lifelong friendships with her classmates and enjoyed monthly lunches with the Lunch Bunch. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Phoenixville where she was involved with the Women’s Guild and various fundraising events.

She was an active member of the Legion of Mary and served on the board in many different positions. Rusty had true community spirit and volunteered at the Johnson Home Geriatric Center and the Golden Age Living Center. She also recruited for the Red Cross Blood Drives and acted as the Girl Scout Cookie Chairman while finding time to make meals for Saint Mary’s Shelter and feeding half of the neighborhood.

Rusty was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time with her family going to public gardens, movies, and the theatre. Rusty worked as a bookkeeper and then as a cashier at Superior Beverage in Phoenixville for over 40 years, retiring at age 80. Her sister, Sue Barber, of West Chester, PA., survives her along with her 7 children: Neal Bodnar of Phoenixville, PA; Denise and husband Steve Nissle of Mont Clare, PA; Mark Bodnar and husband Ulises Musseb of Philadelphia, PA; Bernadette Bodnar of Phoenixville, PA; Michele and husband Joseph Donnelly of Phoenixville, PA; Joseph Bodnar of Tucson, AZ; Maria Bodnar of Phoenixville, PA; and 3 grandchildren, Kyle, Brandon and Larissa. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 148 Church Street, Phoenixville, PA, on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Phoenixville, PA. A viewing will be held in the Devlin Rosmos Kepp & Gatcha Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 517 S. Main Street, Phoenixville, PA, on Friday evening from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Friends may also visit on Saturday morning from 8:45 am to 9:15 am when a prayer service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to The Clinic, 143 Church Street, Phoenixville, PA 19460.

Visitation

A viewing will be held in the Devlin Rosmos Kepp & Gatcha Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 517 S. Main Street, Phoenixville, PA, on Friday evening from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Friends may also visit on Saturday morning from 8:45 am to 9:15 am when a prayer service will be held.

Services

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 148 Church Street, Phoenixville, PA, on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at 10:00 am.

Interment

Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Phoenixville, PA.
