Route 202 is officially open to six lanes of traffic, and it's time to celebrate.

On Friday, PennDOT Secretary Leslie S. Richards will join federal, state and local officials to highlight the widening and opening 202.

All told, 6.5 miles of U.S. 202 have been expanded to six lanes between the Route 252 (Swedesford Road) and U.S. 30 interchanges in East Whiteland and Tredyffrin townships, PennDOT said.

The state invested nearly $300 million to rebuild and widen U.S. 202 from four lanes to six lanes to enhance travel and safety.

More than 70,000 motorists travel on 202 each day.

The ribbon cutting will take place on the Park-and-Ride lot on U.S. 30 at the interchange for U.S. 202 in East Whiteland.
