Route 23 Bridge Over French Creek In Phoenixville to Close For Repairs
The $450,000 project will lead to an anticipated nine day closure of the road and subsequent detour in Phoenixville, PennDOT said.

PHOENIXVILLE, PA — Construction on the Route 23 bridge over French Creek in Phoenixville, East Pikeland, and Schuylkill Township will begin on August 5, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
The $450,000 project will lead to an anticipated nine day closure of the road and subsequent detour in Phoenixville, PennDOT said.
Construction to repair the "structurally deficient" bridge will conclude on August 14, officials said.

Crews will replace the bridge deck and deteriorated beams during the rehabilitation, according to PennDOT.
Route 23 will be closed and detoured between Valley Forge Road and Township Line Road. The posted detour will use Township Line Road and Valley Forge Road. Southbound Township Line motorists wanting to access eastbound Route 23 will be detoured over Mowere Road. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone.

The Route 23 bridge, which was built in 1940, carries an average of 15,450 vehicles a day, according to PennDOT estimates.
It's the latest of several bridges to be repaired under a $7.5 million state grant. Other bridges that will be repaired include:
- Bryn Mawr Avenue bridge over Ithan Creek in Radnor
- New Second Street bridge over Tacony Creek in Cheltenham
- Route 611 (Broad Street) bridge over U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Extension) in Philadelphia
