STEM Camp Recognized

Local government and school district representatives showed their support to kids learning about STEM.

Orion Communities is a non-profit that works with neighbors who are living with the challenges of poverty, illness or disability. One Orion program is STARS (Sharing Technology Advances Reading Skills) that gifts computers and digital literacy classes to students and parents to help close the academic gap for children from low income households. The program was developed in cooperation with the Phoenixville Area School District (PASD).

Orion holds a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) Summer Camp to give students the opportunity to learn about robotics, circuitry, coding and solving real world problems like cleaning up oil spills.

By engaging kids at an early age with had on experiences, coding, and solution discovery they learn the fun of STEM and the possibility of challenging new career opportunities. Many thanks to all the volunteers and partner organizations including 4-H, Sweatshirts to Scrubs, and the Perkiomen Watershed that made STEM Summer Camp such a buzz of activity. Thanks to local business who participate in Pennsylvania Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) and Meridian Bank for being Orion's first EITC funder!

Orion's STARS program will be incorporating STEM into the curriculum during the school year. It was an exciting day to have the students demonstrate their projects to our guests.
