  • The original American trailer for Marcel Carné's 1945 film--made during the German occupation--describes the epic as France's Gone with the Wind. It's a romantic melodrama set in the world of early 1800s French theatre. The story interweaves the fates of an alluring courtesan and the four men who are in love with her. Jacques Prévert's screenplay was nominated for an Academy Award. Not rated. 190 min. Lovingly restored for digital presentation.

Sunday, April 23, 2017 @ 2PM
On the Town

  • Stanley Donen (Singin' in the Rain) directs. Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, and Ann Miller sing and dance around New York City. What more do you need to know? Songs by Betty Comden and Adolph Greene, score by Leonard Bernstein. There's a direct nod to this film in La La Land, but Donen's 1949 classic was one of the first films to take the action off the soundstages and into the real world. Not rated. 98 min. A beautiful digital presentation.
Sunday, April 30, 2017 @ 2PM
Queen Christina
  • A pre-Code Hollywood costume drama starring Greta Garbo as the sensual, regal 17th-century Swedish monarch who leads her nation through the Thirty Years' War and who, ultimately, chose love over royal obligation. John Gilbert is her love interest. Directed by Rouben Mamoulian (Cleopatra), it was the highest-grossing film of 1933. Not rated. 99 min. See it in exquisite 35mm.
