Valley Forge To Close Unauthorized Trail Crossing Revolutionary-Era Relics

VALLEY FORGE, PA — Park officials in Valley Forge have announced that they will close an unauthorized trail that crosses over earthworks built by the Continental Army in 1777.
The trail, which stretches for just over a third of a mile, runs from East Inner Line Drive to connect with another trail on Mount Joy.

The park says that hikers and erosion are contributing to significant damage to the historic earthworks.
The trail also goes through a forest restoration area, which is leading to a spread of invasive species and is preventing natural revegetation.

Park users are urged to stay on the 35 miles of designated trails within the park, in order to protect both the park's cultural and environmental legacy.
