Valley Forge Historic Covered Bridge Repairs Delayed

The bridge, severely damaged in a hit and run in July, will not be completed as quickly as originally thought.

TREDYFFRIN, PA - The historic Knox covered bridge may not be repaired as quickly as originally thought.

The bridge, which suffered severe damage when a truck struck it in July, was even more seriously damaged than first believed, the Times Herald Reports.

Structural damage could take until late January to repair.

As crews work to repair the bridge, they are also working to complete covered bridge repairs at another Chester County covered bridge, Speakman.

Rapps Dam, meanwhile, was completed earlier this year.

The budget for the three projects is $3.2 million all told.

In the meantime, traffic is being detoured to Route 252, North Valley Road, and Swedesford Road.

Residents of surrounding municipalities are experiencing altered traffic patterns as a result of the detour, especially residents on Valley Forge Mountain.

The driver fled the scene of the July 6 accident.
