West Pikeland Bridge Over Pickering Creek To Be Replaced

The project will replace the "aging and deteriorating" structure over Pickering Creek.

WEST PIKELAND TOWNSHIP, PA — The bridge over Pickering Creek in West Pikeland Township will be replaced, officials announced Tuesday.

The bridge is "aging and deteriorating," State Sen. Andy Dinniman (D-Chester) said. The project will also involve raising the Horseshoe Trail roadway, and widening the waterway opening to limit flooding.

“We continue to make progress in repairing and replacing our deteriorating bridges,” Dinniman said in a statement. “These investments are not only a matter of public safety, they’re also vital to the success of our local transportation infrastructure and the growth of our economy.”

A recent PennDOT grant of nearly $1.2 million will help fund the project, which is also supported by Pennsylvania’s Multimodal Transportation Fund.

In addition to the bridge over Pickering Creek, the U.S. 322 bridge over Brandywine Creek in East and West Bradford townships will also be replaced.
