Woman Walks 20 Miles To Phoenixville To Raise Money For Food Pantry

"There was a time when my family needed help and it really opened my eyes."

A determined woman walked 20 miles from her home in Souderton all the way to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Phoenixville to raise money for the church’s food pantry.

The hike was also meant to raise awareness about hunger in the area.

“There was a time when my family needed help and it really opened my eyes to the issue of food insecurity,” Juliana Flora wrote in her IndieGoGo campaign.

Flora said she lost her job, and suddenly her middle class life, her home, and the ability to support her small child were all threatened.

But because she recieved help, she was able to get back on her feet again.

The walk will end at St. Peter’s because of the work they have done in the community to improve food security.

“St. Peters church is a place that provides this help,” Flora said.

The pantry serves over 5,000 people a year. Flora had a goal of raising $3000 for the pantry. Thus far, she is 23 percent of her way to her goal, having raised $700.

“Together, we can wipe out hunger,” she said.
