Sixth-grader Nathaniel Lisanti won the school-level competition of the 23rd annual National Geographic Bee Jan. 4 at Aquinas Academy of Pittsburgh in Gibsonia
For the second year in a row, Nathaniel faced his sister Alaina, who is in the eighth grade, in the final rounds. Last year Alaina defeated Nathaniel and advanced to the state level.
A written geography test will determine if Nathaniel qualifies for the state bee in April. State champions will compete May 24-25 in Washington, D.C., for a $25,000 college scholarship and other prizes.
