St. Alphonsus School Holds 'Pink Day' and Produces Video for Teacher with Breast Cancer
St. Alphonsus Student Council sponsored 'Pink Day' and created a video of well wishes to a teacher recovering from breast cancer surgery. Students wore pink and each class was filmed for the video.
St. Alphonsus School in Wexford was “in the pink” on Oct. 16 as students, teachers and administrators wore pink and created a video of well wishes to school science teacher Nancy Snyder, who is recovering from breast cancer surgery.
Eighth-grade student and Student Council Vice President Isabella Seman came up with the idea of making a video of well wishes and delivering it to the well-loved teacher. Student Council members stopped by each school classroom throughout the day, filming the students as they sent their best wishes and prayers out to Mrs. Snyder.
Student Council officers include eighth graders Zachary Gaubert, president; Sammy Potter, secretary; and Alex Sturgis, treasurer. The seventh-grade representatives to Student Council are Natalie Christel, Hannah Cottrill, Katie Dickey and Carrie Vinski. The students are supervised by program moderator and school teacher Kimberly McCosby.

Mrs. Snyder, a 2012 Golden Apple Award-winning teacher, has been undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
Isabella explained, “I think this will be a great way to acknowledge all that Mrs. Snyder has done for the school. Saying that, I came up with the idea of having a 'pink day' since it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Mrs. Snyder is getting her surgery for breast cancer.”

The 14-year old Cranberry Township resident added, “Mrs. Snyder is a very special and amazing person! I think she needs some extra support and prayers to make her feel more at ease with her surgery.”
Mrs. Snyder is well known at St. Alphonsus School for the award-winning PA Junior Academy of Science projects that her seventh- and eighth-grade students produce every year. Students begin the projects during the summer and she is always available to answer their questions.
This year, her students received 16 first-place awards at the PJAS Region VII competition in February and five of those 16 students also received six special awards from various corporations, professional societies and local universities.
