Summer Job Advantages

My learning experiences during a summer job.

This summer I decided to get my first summer job. I am planning to save some money for college next year. I had never had a job before so I was both nervous and excited to start.

I applied to a few places in the area and was so excited to be called in for an interview. This is where those business classes I took in high school really came in handy because we were taught important interview skills.

I started soon after school ended and was nervous because many of the people at work are older than me. I soon found that everyone at my job is very helpful and willing to assist me in learning my tasks. I never once felt out of place and felt a very comfortable and friendly work environment.

Therefore, I then learned that a summer job has more benefits than just a paycheck. It first taught me to work together like a team. I had to rely on my fellow employees if I had a question and not be afraid to ask for help if I did not understand something.

I then learned more about organization. I had to balance my time between tasks and around my breaks. I also had to balance my outside schedule with the one provided by my work. With this being a job that interacts a lot with the public, I had to also provide fast and friendly service to suit their needs and ensure that they would return. I also had to provide friendly service to back the initiatives of the company.

This also exposed me to dealing with a variety of situations of working with customers. While working in the company I was able to learn more about why certain things are done and how the company ticks. You never realize how much work goes on in the background to provide the service that the public sees day to day, and how much hard work goes into meeting the monthly goals to achieve above the competitors.

Even though I have only worked at the company for a few weeks now I am already looking forward to going back each day. You know a business is really good when all the employees are excited and upbeat about working.

I am excited to see what new experiences the rest of summer brings!

(For company privacy, I have not mentioned the company's name.)
