Winter White

As an interior designer, I work with a variety of clients and style preferences. I conduct an initial consultation client interview to gauge what their vision might be for the room in question. I diligently work to find the right color palette for the overall design theme.

I love to start with the paint color selection. I have worked with all of the great saturated colors and the current spate of wonderful grays and blues. I experiment with new colors in my own home since color selection is a fine art. I want to get it right the first time, not the third.

I have come full circle on this subject with my newest selections: White. I’m back to the all-white room. 

I chose Benjamin Moore winter white in an eggshell finish for the walls and onto the vaulted, beamed ceiling. I chose my favorite white, decorators white, in semi gloss for the trim work.  It’s subtle, yet perfect.

I warmed up the winter vibe with soft wool, retro orange and white area rug, an oriental runner in oranges, blues and deep crimson, and throw pillows in a variety of crimson and orange with a touch of teal in a twill fabric. 

I always add at least two throws. One is ivory velvet with a faux fur and one is a cable knit crimson. The room is offset by polished Brazilian cherry hardwoods with floor-to-ceiling windows standing confident without any embellishment to showcase a constant change of the seasons. It’s warm, yet clean; modern, but not sparse. I call it warm modern, which is perfect for my Atomic Ranch.

After a 13-year respite from the all-white look, I’m back and loving it. Sometimes a designer needs the calmness of the uninterrupted flow of white for inspiration.
