Community Asked to Help with STEAM Program at Pine-Richland High School

STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.

Do you have a strong interest or background in science, technology, engineering, arts and/or mathematics?

is looking for people in the community who are interested in bringing those talents to an advisory committee as the new two-story STEAM Center of new classrooms nears completion at .

"We are excited about this modern facility, which will provide students in the Pine-Richland School District with opportunities to engage in hands-on learning opportunities and to develop skills connected to career aspirations in STEAM-related fields," said Assistant Superintendent Dr. David Foley.

"With that in mind, we would like to invite community members to get involved in our STEAM advisory committee," Foley continued. "The purpose of this committee is to strengthen the STEAM program and develop a meaningful partnership between the schools, families, community members and local businesses to best support student learning."  

Superintendent Mary Bucci in her September blog said the advisory committee "is being formed to help the district inspire and prepare students to engage in STEM occupations.  We are looking for people who have a strong interest in helping to promote STEM careers – along with that very important Art piece - the creativity, innovation and design sense that makes Americans and American education unique.

"We want to redesign the senior year and give Pine-Richland students a competitive advantage by offering job shadowing, internships, early college, and real work experiences for those students who want them," Bucci wrote.

The committee will meet every other month to discuss ways in which Pine-Richland School District can encourage student participation and interest in the STEAM program, according to Foley.

Foley also wrote that the district is looking to develop ways to involve professionals in STEAM-related careers to support the curriculum and help prepare students for careers.
