Gas Prices Drop in Western Pennsylvania

Average price down 5.2 cents.

The average price for a gallon of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Western Pennsylvania declined 5.2 cents this week to $3.523 a gallon, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge.

The current national retail average price for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline is $3.56, which is a fraction of a penny more than the price one week ago, said AAA's Fuel Gauge. Today’s average is 42 cents lower than the highest average price for 2011 - $3.98 on May 5. 

Following a week of steady declines, crude oil prices were up today in light trading to begin the Independence Day-shortened week. Crude oil settled today at $96.25, up $1.31 at the close of formal trading on the NYMEX.

The average price for gas last week in Western Pennsylvania was $3.575.

In comparison, the average price a year ago -- during the week of July 6 -- was $2.724.
