National Parks Adventure Day

Celebrate the grand opening of National Parks Adventure with an event all about the great outdoors. Join the community of Pittsburgh for National Parks Adventure Day at the Carnegie Science Center on February 13, 2016, from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm.

National Parks Adventure, a new giant-screen film experience from MacGillivray Freeman Film, will play at Carnegie Science Center's Rangos Omnimax Theater this winter and spring. The film, shown on Pittsburgh's biggest screen, commemorates the U.S. National Park Service's 100-year anniversary through breath-taking images of America's natural treasures. Come inside, and fall in love with nature!

At the grand opening celebration:

• Explore animal tracks.

• Find out about geocaching.

• Discover the starry night sky at Buhl Planetarium.

• Climb a rock wall in SportsWorks.

• Taste some frozen marshmallows.

• Meet with outdoor experts from the National Parks Service.

• Talk with staff from REI about how to plan your own National Parks Adventure.

• Craft a diorama of a park to take home.

• Snap a photo at a famous national park with our green screen photography booth.

• Build a dam with clay, rocks, and sticks, and see if it's able to hold back water.

• For a few dollars more, soar through canyons and race up mountain slopes on the biggest screen in Pittsburgh at National Parks Adventure.

• Add-on a Fab Lab workshop for a few dollars extra, and make your own Ranger badge.

To celebrate the film, the Pittsburgh community is invited to share photos on social media from their own national parks adventure. Submitted national parks photos will be shown on the Omnimax dome before the film begins.

Photos may be submitted during the entire run of the show on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook with the hashtag #MyNationalParksAdventure and must publicly tag Carnegie Science Center's account (@CarnegieSciCtr on Twitter and Instagram; @Carnegie Science Center on Facebook).
