PennDOT, Police Plan Increased Enforcement in Route 28 Work Zone
Fines for certain violations are doubled in work zones.

If you are traveling to or from Pittsburgh via Route 28, as many Pine-Richland residents do, be forewarned.
PennDOT and the Pittsburgh Police are alerting motorists that police will conduct increased enforcement on Route 28 in Pittsburgh, focusing on violations in construction zones.
Motorists could face a 15-day driver’s license suspension if caught driving 11 mph over the speed limit in an active work zone or are involved in a crash in an active work zone and are convicted for failing to drive at a safe speed.Â

In the counties that comprise PennDOT’s District 11 — Allegheny, Beaver and Lawrence — there were 330 crashes in work zones and five people lost their lives last year.  Â

PennDOT urges motorists to follow these tips when traveling through work zones:
- Drive the posted speed limit;
- Avoid distractions;
- Be patient;
- Turn on your headlights;
- Stay alert and pay close attention to signs and flaggers;
- Maintain a safe distance around vehicles and;
- Always buckle up.
