Workshop on Executive Functions with Dr. Cheryl Chase
Pennsylvania Branch of the International Dyslexia Association to Present a Workshop with one of the nation's experts on Executive Functions
The Pennsylvania Branch of the International Dyslexia Association is pleased to present a full-day workshop on executive functions for professionals and parents with Dr. Cheryl Chase, one of the nation’s experts on Executive Functions. The workshop will take place on Saturday, May 2, 2015 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit in the Waterfront.
If you work with a student or you have a child that struggles with planning, organizing time or materials, working memory, controlling impulses or adjusting to schedule changes, it may be an executive function issue. Executive function is a term used to describe a broad set of cognitive skills that, when working properly, allow students to manage impulses, work in a deliberate and thoughtful manner, and organize their time and materials. When development of these skills is delayed, academic performance often suffers. These issues are common in people with dyslexia, ADHD, autism, and other learning or emotional conditions.
Dr. Chase will explain how you can help your child or student improve their executive functioning. The workshop will show the connection between executive functioning and academics and provide concrete strategies that can be used to support a student with weak executive functioning.
