Allegheny Co. Offering Hundreds Of COVID-19 Vaccination Slots

Those 65 and older can now schedule their vaccination registration by phone. The number of available appointments is limited, the county say

UPDATED 4:10 p.m.: No more appointments are available and 211 is not accepting further calls for them, the county announced.

UPDATED 12:30 p.m.: Allegheny County reports people are having difficulty getting through on the 211 line because of the sheer number of people attempting to register by phone. The county also is receiving calls at other numbers at its offices by people trying to register, but 211 is the only number accepting phone registrations.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Beginning at noon on Thursday, Allegheny County will be scheduling coronavirus vaccine appointments for people 65 or older without internet access or who are having difficulty navigating the registration website. Appointments can be scheduled by calling the United Way help line at 211.

Appointments are for the health department’s dispensing point inside the DoubleTree Hotel in Monroeville only. Appointments remain extremely limited with the approximately 750 available slots that span the next two weeks likely to fill up quickly.

When all appointments have been filled, public notice will be provided and phone scheduling will end.

Other vaccine providers in Allegheny County have separate registration systems, and 211 will not be able to sign up people for appointments with those providers.

If available, callers should be prepared to provide an email address or cellphone number where they can receive a reminder to schedule the second dose in the vaccine series. An email address or cellphone number is not required. For those without an email or cellphone, instructions
will be provided on when to contact 211 to schedule their second dose appointment.

In addition to scheduling appointments, 211 call takers will be available 24/7 to assist the community with questions related to the COVID-19 vaccines and any other COVID-related inquiries. Call-takers can also refer callers to the Pittsburgh Poison Center for clinical-related questions about the vaccine.
