Allegheny County Coronavirus Cases Soar; Death Toll Tops 500

Here are the latest coronavirus case numbers for Allegheny County and southwestern Pennsylvania.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department on Friday reported six new coronavirus deaths since Wednesday; there was no report issued Thursday because of the Thanksgiving holiday. The county death toll now stands at 504.

County officials said 1,642 new cases have been reported over the last 48 hours, an average of 821 per day. That average is significantly greater than the county's previous single-day record of 620 cases reported set last week. There have been 26,821 cases since the outbreak began in March.

There have been 1,931 hospitalizations in the county during the outbreak.

With 8,159 cases in Westmoreland County, 4.121 in Washington County, 4,032 in Butler County and 3,561 in Beaver County, that brings the total number of cased to 46,694 when Allegheny County numbers are included. That's up from 44,339 on Wednesday.

According to the state Department of Health, there have been 975 deaths in the region from the virus: Five hundred and four in Allegheny County, 179 in Westmoreland County, 154 in Beaver County, and 69 each in Washington and Butler counties. That's up from 951 on Wednesday.
