Allegheny County Reports More Than 500 New Coronavirus Cases
Here are the latest coronavirus case numbers for Allegheny County and southwestern Pennsylvania.
PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department on Wednesday reported 525 confirmed and probable new coronavirus cases. There have been 52,998 cases since the outbreak began in March.
There were 47 new coronavirus deaths. The county death toll now stands at 945.
The 485 confirmed cases came from 1,703 new tests - a positivity rate of 28 percent. For comparison purposes, the latest positivity rate for tests across Pennsylvania is 15.8 percent, state officials said.

There have been 3,161 hospitalizations during the outbreak.
With 19,070 cases in Westmoreland County, 9,191 in Butler County, 8,798 in Washington County and 8,294 in Beaver County, that brings the total number of cases to 98,351 when Allegheny County numbers are included.

According to the state Department of Health, there have been 1,917 deaths in the region from the virus: Nine hundred and forty-five in Allegheny County, 409 in Westmoreland County, 250 in Beaver County, 185 in Butler County and 128 in Washington County.
Because of the large number of coronavirus cases and deaths across Pennsylvania, additional mitigation measures are in effect until Jan. 4. The state has restricted indoor dining and closed gyms, movie theaters and bowling alleys, as well as limiting gatherings and suspending youth sports.
