Allegheny Health Network To Build New Hempfield Hospital

The health system and Highmark Health plan three other neighborhood hospitals in the region.

PITTSBURGH, PA - The first of four neighborhood hospitals Highmark Health and the Allegheny Health Network plan to build over the next few years will be built in Hempfield Township in Westmoreland County.

AHN Hempfield Neighborhood Hospital will be built at the intersection of Route 30 and Agnew Road. Pending regulatory approval form the state, the hospital should open in 2019.

“We have taken a number of important steps over the past year to expand access to AHN physicians and programs in Westmoreland County,” said Cynthia Hundorfean, AHN president and CEO. “This wonderful new facility will further ensure that the people who live here have exceptional choices close to home for their health care needs.”

AHN Hempfield is part of a plan announced by Highmark Health and AHN in October to invest $1 billion in new facility construction and existing facility expansion and renovation over the next four to five years. Highmark and AHN are partnering on the neighborhood hospital component with Emerus, the nation’s leading developer and operator of neighborhood hospitals.

AHN Hempfield will offer various onsite clinical services, including an emergency department, 10 inpatient beds for observation and short-stay use, diagnostic care, primary and specialty care, and other complementary services.
