Alternative Station WXXP Holding Reunion Show

Find out here when you can get your '80s groove on with bands that were played on Pittsburgh's first alternative rock station.

PITTSBURGH, PA - If you were of a certain age and mindset in the mid-1980s in Pittsburgh, then you probably still have a fondness for WXXP-FM. For two years, the city’s first radio station that played alternative music exposed listeners to acts that might have been out of the mainstream but were about to become wildly popular.

WXXP also was a place that played the music of local bands, several of which will regroup for the WXXP 33 â…“ Reunion occurring Nov. 23 at 6 p.m. at Stage AE on the North Shore. Generation XX will headline and other bands playing will provide middle-aged local alternative fans with a blast from the past.

Reunion guests include The Affordable Floors and Eleventh Hour, along with the Reckoning, Re-52s, members of Seven Color Sky, members of Rich Mahogany & The Leather Bound Books and other special guests. The event will be hosted by some of the original DJs of WXXP, which has been resurrected as an online station.
