Multiple Injuries Occur In Major Pittsburgh Fire

PITTSBURGH, PA — Four people were injured, including two firefighters, in a fire that occurred early Thursday in Lawrenceville.

At approximately 12:45 am, Pittsburgh Fire was dispatched to the 3400 block of Ligonier Street in Lower Lawrenceville for a residential structure fire that quickly grew to three alarms.

According to Pittsburgh Public Safety officials, two people were inside the house where the fire is believed to have originated.

A man escaped through the top floor/attic area and jumped to a neighboring house where he was rescued by firefighters via a ladder truck.He suffered first-degree burns to his face and second and third-degree burns to both of his hands.

Medics transported a woman to the hospital in stable condition for smoke inhalation.

An adjacent house also sustained significant damage, but was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

One firefighter was transported to the hospital in stable condition with injuries to his hip area. A second firefighter was transported to the hospital in stable condition to be evaluated for facial burns.

A mayday was called at one point when a floor collapsed inside one of the structures with firefighters inside, but no one was injured.

Fire Investigation Unit detectives will work to determine the exact cause of the fire. The American Red Cross Greater Pennsylvania will be assisting the displaced residents with emergency accommodations and additional needs.
