PITTSBURGH, PA — Criminal charges have been filed in connection with an incident Monday that left a juvenile wounded and a dog dead in the Pittsburgh area.
Shortly after 5 p.m. on Monday, officers from the Verona Police Department responded to reports of a minor and a small dog being wounded in the area of Riverbank Park along Arch Street.
Upon arrival, officers determined that a dog had gotten loose from a nearby residence and attacked both the child and the small dog, which was killed.
The child was taken to UPMC Children's Hospital in Lawrenceville. The extent of her injuries are not currently being disclosed.
Criminal charges have been filed against the dog's owner, whose identity was not immediately revealed. The specific charges also were not immediately released.
The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information or who may have observed the incident is encouraged to contact Verona Police.
