PITTSBURGH, PA — Kennywood and its Phantom's Revenge coaster landed in the top 10 of two USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice polls, according to information provided by the park.
Kennywood was voted the No. 4 theme park in the country. Phantom's Revenge, which is celebrating its 25th birthday, was voted the No. 2 roller coaster in the country. The rankings came in USA Today's 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, which recognize attractions and businesses across the United States based on votes from readers nationwide.
The park said Pittsburgh and coaster fans helped drive the results. Kennywood finished behind several other parks in the rankings, including sister park Silver Dollar City, which took the top spot in the theme park poll.
The recognition comes as Kennywood begins its weekend operating schedule. The park is now open weekends, and through May 10 guests can attend its newest event, Celebrate Kennywood Weekends.
According to the park, the event brings together Potato Patch fries, thrill rides and what it described as Kennywood nostalgia. Guests are encouraged to wear matching Kennywood outfits and walk around the lagoon while trying potato-themed foods.
Menu items listed for the event include loaded cheesesteak fries, rosemary truffle fries, buffalo pierogi flatbread and loaded maple cinnamon sweet potato waffle fries. The park also said more specialty items are part of the event.
The new rankings give Kennywood another national mention as the spring season gets underway in Pittsburgh. For visitors, the awards arrive alongside a fresh promotional push built around familiar food, rides and the park's long-running local identity.
Celebrate Kennywood Weekends runs through May 10, according to the information provided. Kennywood is open on weekends during that period.
