Pittsburgh-Area Weather: Dangerous Conditions Arriving

Potentially hazardous weather is on the way to Pittsburgh, according to the National Weather Service.

PITTSBURGH, PA —A huge shift in the weather pattern is going to bring potentially dangerous conditions to the Pittsburgh area.

During one of the coolest Mays on record thus far in the region, prepare for the scorching steam of mid-August temperatures.

Highs will be in the low to mid-80s on Saturday and Sunday - and then it gets very hot.

According to the National Weather Service, the anticipated high on Monday will be 91. The entire region will be under a Stage 2 Moderate Heat Risk Category.

That means there is a risk of heat-related impacts will exist for those sensitive to heat and without proper cooling and hydration. Health systems and industries also could be impacted.

The weather service warns that on Tuesday, the Pittsburgh area will be under a Stage 1 Major Heat Risk Category after temperatures again are expected to top 90.

That means the heat could impact anyone without proper cooling and hydration, as well as health systems and industries.

The remainder of the region will remain in a Stage 2 Moderate Heat Risk Category.

It's unclear yet whether Pittsburgh plans to activate cooling centers in advance of the impending heat wave.
