PITTSBURGH, PA — A professional basketball player from Pittsburgh was arrested Saturday for owing more than $100,000 in child support, authorities said.

DeAndre Kane, 36, has been a fugitive since 2023, when he failed to appear for a hearing regarding missed child support payments, the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

Authorities learned this week that Kane would be
returning to Pittsburgh on Friday from Iceland, where he currently plays basketball. Detectives met Kane at the Pittsburgh International Airport and took him into custody as he disembarked his flight from Iceland.

Kane was taken to the Allegheny County Jail to await a hearing in Family Court.

Kane, who led Schenley High School to a City League basketball championship in 2008, has been playing professional basketball overseas for various teams since 2014.

Kane began his college career at Marshall before transferring to Iowa State, where he became a first-team All-Big 12 selection in 2013-14. He averaged 17.1 points, 6.8 rebounds and 5.9 assists during his lone season with the Cyclones and helped lead the program to the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16.

Undrafted in 2014, the 6-foot-4 guard spent time in the NBA developmental system and appeared briefly with the New Orleans Pelicans. Most of his professional career was built overseas, where he became a standout in Europe and Israel. Kane played for several top clubs, including Maccabi Tel Aviv, winning domestic league titles and competing in the EuroLeague.
