Consumer Alert Issued For Well-Known Pittsburgh Eatery

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for a popular South Side restaurant.

The alert was issued for La Palapa on East Carson Street for numerous health code violations.

A June 5 inspection revealed numerous rodent dropping on top of a dish machine, and more droppings on a sheet pan stored on the low shelf of a stainless steel table in the dish area.

Several dead roaches were discovered in the light fixtures in the dish washing area. Additional dead roaches were found in the basement.

A container of home-use cockroach bait was observed stored on the top shelf of the dish washing area.

Several large black flies were seen flying in the dish washing area.

Both soda guns behind the bar have a buildup of pink and gray slime inside the soda gun and inside the soda gun caddy.

The inspector also found that the eatery lacks a three-bowl sink for backup wash, rinse and sanitize purposes. Two knives were stored on a knife magnet on the cook line with old food debris on the blades.

A restaurant with a consumer alert placard is allowed to operate for a temporary period not exceeding 10 days.

Another inspection is conducted either prior to the expiration of the temporary period upon request of the eatery owner or on the tenth day.
