PITTSBURGH, PA - Owing to social media posts about a possible disruptive gathering at Kennywood last month, the West Mifflin amusement park's management went into action.
Kennywood had been implementing a chaperone policy requiring minors to have an adult chaperone after 4 p.m. The park now has an all-day chaperone in place.
Soon its sister attraction, Sandcastle Water Park in West Homestead, will do the same. The new policy, which goes into effect on Friday, will require guests ages 15 and under to be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or other supervising adult age 21 or older while visiting the park.
"As the General Manager of both Sandcastle and Kennywood, I've had the opportunity to see firsthand the positive impact this policy has had at Kennywood this summer," Ricky Spicuzza said in a statment posted on social media.
"We have heard from many guests who appreciate the welcoming atmosphere it has helped reinforce, and that feedback gave us confidence to introduce the same policy at Sandcastle.
"While each park offers a different experience, they share the same commitment to providing a place where families can create memories worth repeating together. Bringing a consistent approach to both parks helps us continue delivering the experience our guests expect whenever they visit."
