PITTSBURGH, PA — Walmart is interested in taking over two former Rite Aid locations in the city.
The retailer has approached city officials about moving into the vacant Rite Aid on Noblestown Road in the West End and the one on Howley Street in Bloomfield.
The former drug stores would be used as delivery depots that would enable faster home delivery. It would be stocked with popular products.
The depots would not be open to the public.
Pittsburgh's Zoning Board of Adjustment heard a Walmart proposal Thursday for a special exception that would allow the retailer to renovate the Bloomfield location for grocery store use.
The zoning board also must decide the same thing for the West End Rite Aid location is set to go before the zoning board next week.
It's unclear when the delivery depots would open if the city approves the proposals.
