Pittsburgh Cafe Slapped With Consumer Alert

An Allegheny County Health Department inspection turned up some unappetizing things at a Pittsburgh cafe. Get the details here.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for Hanlons Cafe and Catering, on Clever Avenue in McKees Rocks, for numerous health code violations.

At an inspection on Wednesday, adulterated noodles, breadcrumbs, pancake mix and walnuts were observed.

Rodent droppings were found on a rack storing clean dishes; on a rack storing stainless steel bowls; on canned goods; on shelves storing canned goods and on a handwashing sink.

Fruit flies were observed near the front counter and in the ware washing room.

Additionally, old food residue was found on the deli slicer, equipment sides were soiled with grease and a can opener was found to be soiled.

If those corrective measures are not taken within 10 days, the health department has threatened to close the cafe.
