PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture's Food Safety Bureau has ruled Pittsburgh-area restaurant "out of compliance" with state health code regulations.
During an Aug. 3 inspection of the House of Chen on Brandt Road, in Cranberry, 13 violations were found. Among them:
- Mouse droppings were observed in a dry storage closet, indicating the presence of live rodents in the restaurant.
- A magnetic knife rack and the blade guard of a slicer, was observed to have food residue on it and was not clean to sight or touch.
- Ready to eat cut cabbage was found in a walk-in cooler in an open container with no cover.
- The restaurant was found to be double-stacking food items in the walk-in cooler and prep area. With food items placed on top of each other, the bottom of containers was coming in contact with unprotected food.
- Dirt and soil accumulations were found on a shelf above the kitchen prep area, the top of the kitchen dishwasher and at a work table at the end of the cook line.
- Pooling water was observed on the floor by the kitchen dishwasher.
