Pittsburgh, Parts Of Western PA Under Flood Watch

PITTSBURGH, PA — The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Pittsburgh and Allegheny, Beaver and Westmoreland counties.

The watch is in effect until 8 a.m. on Wednesday and includes Donegal, Aliquippa, Ambridge, Columbiana, East Liverpool, Monaca, Latrobe, Greensburg, Monessen, Ligonier, Beaver Falls, Murrysville, New Kensington, Salem, and Lower Burrell.

According to the weather service, excessive runoff from precipitation from Monday and today could result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks.

Additional rainfall through Tuesday night is expected to average from 1.0 to 1.5 inches across the watch area. However, there is the potential for isolated locations to receive an additional 2 to 3 inches. With the soil already saturated, such rain totals could create flash flooding conditions.
