PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has ordered the closure of two Pittsburgh-area restaurants for multiple food code violations.
Chicken Hut, on 3rd Street in Dravosburg, was shut down after an inspection on Tuesday revealed an accumulation of waste water in multiple rooms of the basement. The inspection report noted that a prevalence of insects in the area indicated the accumulation was chronic.
The hot water temperatures at a three-compartment sink ranged from 102 to 95 degrees when a temperature at or above 110 degrees is required for hot water. Because of the waste water backup in the basement, the inspector was unable to check the hot water tank to see if that was the problem.
For the restaurant to reopen, all material must be removed from the basement, which then must be thoroughly disinfected.
The health department ordered the closure of Al's Fish & Chicken on Duquesne Boulevard in Duquense.
An inspection on Tuesday revealed an active grease trap leak in the ware washing and food storage areas. The inspector also noticed abundant fly activity in the kitchen and more than five fly papers in the eatery.
To reopen, Al's must have plans approved for the installation of a grease trap, have the trap and stalled and have the areas around the leaking area disinfected.
