PITTSBURGH, PA — Three youth football coaches involved in an altercation during a game last weekend now face charges connected to the incident.
Carnegie Police Chief Jeff Kennedy announced that Carlynton Little Cougars offensive coach DaQuay Canton of Crafton was charged with disorderly conduct and harassment and Keystone Oaks youth football team coaches Joseph Kubiak of Castle Shannon and Frank McGrath of Green Tree each were charged with disorderly conduct.
The altercation occurred at a Steel City Youth Football game involving 8- and 9-year-old players.
Kennedy said in a social media post Thursday that police were dispatched to Honus Wagner Field for a report of a fight involving coaches. When the officers arrived, the brawl had ended and people were leaving the stadium.
However, a witness who had recorded the fight approached the officers and informed them that he had video of the incident.
"After reviewing the footage, it was determined that the Carlynton head coach appeared to have started this fight and persisted in fighting even after referees along with other individuals tried to calm him down," Kennedy stated in the post.
"Punches were thrown by the Carlynton head coach which could have caused substantial harm and most definitely caused serious inconvenience. The video also showed two Keystone Oaks coaches participating in the fight, although it is not believed they started the fight."
The Steel City Youth Football League said in a social media statement issued on Sunday that it has suspended the coaches indefinitely pending the outcome of a thorough league internal investigation.
"Depending on the findings of the investigation, disciplinary measures may beescalated up to and including permanent, lifelong bans from the Steel City Youth Football League for any individuals found in violation of our Code of Conduct," the post stated.
