Pittsburgh Father Sentenced For Setting Fire That Killed Daughter

PITTSBURGH, PA — A Castle Shannon man was sentenced Thursday for killing his daughter last year in a house fire he intentionally set.

Brian Shelleby, 47, will serve 15-to-30 years in prison after pleading guilty last month to charges of third-degree murder and aggravated arson with injury.

Shelleby had admitted to setting a fire in a Corbett Drive home in Castle Shannon in September 2025 after becoming upset with his wife, Carly Shelleby.

Carly Shelleby suffered serious burns was able to escape the house. But the couple's daughter, Lakyn Shelleby, 19, was unable to get out of the home and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to her obituary, Lakyn Shelleby was a Keystone Oaks High School graduate. She was attending the University of Pittsburgh at the time of her death.
