McCANDLESS, PA — Adzema Pharmacy on Perry Highway is the last pharmacy in Western Pennsylvania where patrons can get meals and daily specials at its breakfast and lunch counter.
"We have been serving tasty and inexpensive breakfast and lunches since 1959," owner Jay Adzema said.
But the pharmacy is having financial difficulties and owner Jay Adzema is turning to the community he serves to help pay for upgrades to the building. He is seeking support via a GoFundMe page.
"The Allegheny Health Department is enforcing code requirements, which up to now, I have been grandfathered into," Adzema said.
"Most of these are plumbing related with no effect on food safety. The costs of these upgrades are reaching upwards of $20,000, which I simply cannot afford and maintain my current operation. I am asking my loyal customers and supporters to help me stay in business."
