MOON TOWNSHIP, PA — Pittsburgh International Airport received an international accolade Tuesday when global industry publication Air Transport World named the facility its 2027 Airport of the Year.
According to the CAPA Centre for Aviation, the award recognizes an airport that has performed strongly in the period April 2025 through end of May 2026 in terms of its relationships with airlines, network growth, passenger experience, security, sustainability and innovation.
Pittsburgh International is the first airport in America to win the award twice. It first received it 2017.
Air Transport World's recognition comes after the airport opened its new terminal last year. The publication noted the airport's strong airline partnerships, network growth and continued investment in technology, sustainability and passenger experience needed to support the next generation of air service.
"Pittsburgh's innovative and dynamic leadership team has transformed the airport so that it stands apart in so many ways – in customer experience, use of cutting-edge technology and sustainability," Air Transport World editor-in-chief Karen Walker told Blue Sky News, the airport's online news website. . "My sincere congratulations on this very well-deserved recognition."
Airport CEO Christina Cassotis said that being named airport of the year for a second time is "an extraordinary recognition."
"Our airline partners are at the center of everything we do. We are focused on creating the infrastructure, operating environment and passenger experience that allow airlines to grow their networks and connect Pittsburgh to more destinations around the world."
