Pittsburgh-Area School Cited By State For Food Safety Violations

BEAVER COUNTY, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture's Bureau of Food Safety has determined that Aliquippa Junior-Senior High School is out of compliance with food safety regulations.

During an inspection on Wednesday, several foods in a cooler were being stored at unsafe temperatures - cheese was held at 61.6 degrees and cut vegetables were held at 65.1 degrees, both more than 20 degrees warmer than the 41 degrees or below as required. The items were discarded and the cooler was placed out of service.

New shelves in a walk-in cooler are not permitted for use in food service because of the design and type of construction. The school was instructed to remove the shelves.

All three of the school's coolers were not operating on the service line, creating a risk for maintaining cold hold foods during operations and service. The school was instructed to repair or replace the coolers.
