Pittsburgh Man Hit Construction Worker With Vehicle, Pepper Sprayed Another: Police

PITTSBURGH, PA — A man is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting a woman, punching and pepper spraying one construction worker and striking another one with his vehicle.

Pittsburgh Public Safety officials said police were dispatched to the 2100 block of Lowrie Street in Troy Hill at around 12:45 p.m. on Monday for reports of a violent domestic incident where a man was assaulting a woman.

The man then went into the house, where he retrieved a gun and returned to confront two men doing construction work at a neighbor's house. The man reportedly pulled the gun and threatened one of the workers if he didn't stop his jack hammer.

The man then put the gun away in the house and began assaulting the woman once again outside.

Two more construction workers intervened to help her when the man started punching a female construction worker in the head and pepper sprayed her in the face.

The man then got in his car, turned a corner, and struck a male construction worker. He then fled from the vehicle on foot.

The worker struck by the car was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Everyone else was evaluated by medics at the scene. The vehicle was recovered in the 1300 block of Lowrie Street.

Matthew Dougherty, 33, of the North Side was taken into custody. He was charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of tampering/fabricating physical evidence.
