PITTSBURGH, PA — Pittsburgh Public Schools canceled all after-school activities Friday and is restricting attendance at tonight's high school football games following a shooting Thursday in which three teens were wounded.
Superintendent Wayne Walters said in a statement Friday that all spectators at George W. Cupples Stadium in the South Side, where City League games are played, must be 18 or older. Spectators must remain in the stands and can't gather in stadium walkways of corridors.
There will be additional police and security present at the games, and no loitering will be permitted outside the stadium.
The moves come after three teens were shot on East Carson Street near the stadium following the conclusion of the Westinghouse-University Prep game. Police were breaking up several fights that were happening when the shooting occurred.
The three victims last were reported in stable condition. It's unclear if they are students at city schools.
The suspect in the shooting remained at large as of Friday afternoon.
"We ask everyone to follow the direction of school staff, security personnel and law enforcement," Walters stated. "The safety and well-being of our students, families and staff remain our highest priority."
