PITTSBURGH, PA — Allegheny County police have filed charges in connection with a deadly crash last year in Monroeville.

On Oct. 21, 2025, county 9-1-1 was notified of a two-vehicle collision between a Chevrolet Malibu and a Nissan Quest at the intersection of Haymaker and McGinley roads.

The Malibu driver, Broderick Balanti, 29, and the Quest driver, Leroy Hart, 88, both were taken to the hospital. Balanti was seriously injured; Hart died 10 days later of blunt force trauma as a result of the collision.

Through witness interviews, detectives determined Balanti was traveling north on Haymaker Road, while Hart was traveling south on Haymaker Road. Hart attempted to make a left turn onto McGinley Road when he was struck by Balanti's vehicle.

Detectives learned Balanti is a volunteer firefighter and was responding to a call in his personal vehicle without lights and sirens. Technology from Balanti's vehicle indicated he was traveling 71 mph one second prior to impact with Hart's vehicle.

After consultation with the district attorney's office, Balanti is facing multiple charges including homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, and reckless driving.
