Pittsburgh Gives Update On Massive Safe Water Project (patch.com) β Pittsburgh residents are seeing major progress in the city's long-running effort to remove lead from residential water lines, with about 88 percent of the work now finished. Mayor Corey O'Connor and Pittsburgh Water leaders say more than 28,000 lead service lines have already been replaced, with thousands more to go and a total investment nearing $400 million to ensure safer drinking water for local families.

Southwest Airlines Boosts Pittsburgh International Airport Service (patch.com) β Pittsburgh travelers will see expanded options at Pittsburgh International Airport as Southwest Airlines adds three new Saturday-only nonstop routes next summer to Panama City, Punta Cana, and Savannah. The carrier, already the airport's largest by passenger share, will also boost frequencies on popular routes including Destin-Fort Walton Beach, Cancun, Tampa, and Las Vegas, further cementing its presence in the region.

Pittsburgh-Area Destination Nationally Lauded For Its Fall Foliage (patch.com) β Pittsburgh-area residents looking for peak fall color are being reminded that the nearby Laurel Highlands, just east of the city, have earned national recognition in USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards. Spanning three counties, the region offers scenic driving loops, hiking and biking trails, and October festivals that showcase some of Southwestern Pennsylvania's most impressive autumn foliage.

4. $4.5 billion project to build tunnels under Pittsburgh's rivers finally underway (cbsnews.com) β Work has begun on ALCOSAN's $4.5 billion tunnel system under Pittsburgh's rivers, aiming to sharply cut sewage overflows and improve water quality. Over the next six-and-a-half years, residents will see construction impacts at access sites and steadily rising sewer bills, with rate hikes expected to exceed the current 7% annual increases.

5. Diocese of Pittsburgh says traditional Latin Mass at Beaver County chapel has not been approved (wpxi.com) β The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh is warning that Latin Masses at the privately owned Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel in Conway are not authorized and do not fulfill Sunday obligation. Neighbors are divided, especially since Conway's former parish was closed, and the diocese is directing Latin Mass supporters to Most Precious Blood of Jesus Parish in Pittsburgh instead.
